History
International classification society Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has been operating in Lithuania since Septemeber 1952. Everything has started from representative office and later it has become the separate division of RS in Lithuania – JSC “Maritime Register of Shipping”.
The establishment of RS office in port-city was determined by the opening of shipbuilding yard “Baltija”. During the period fro 1952 till 2002 under the survey of RS office in Lithuania the yard had built 405 vessels and 65 floating docks.
Since 1991 RS division in Lithuania has been authorized by the government of Lithuanian Republic to perform the conventional survey of the vessels under Lithuanian flagship. At present there are 36 vessels with Lithuanian flag under the class of RS. JSC «MRS» executes the survey of vessels under other flags of foreign Maritime Administrations.
JSC «MRS» also performs the technical survey of testing, approval and survey of containers under the International Convention for Safe Containers, 1972, Customs Convention on Containers, 1972, International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.
Besides classification JSC”MRS” offers to Lithuanian companies services of the certification of their Management systems’ for the conformity with ISO and other international. They are offered throught the partnership of internationally accredited Certifcation Association “Russian Register” and International Certification Network IQNet.
